Open for Applications: Join the Summer School on Ocean Literacy & Collaboration in the Baltic Region

We announce the opening of the Call for Applications of the third edition of the Summer School on Ocean Literacy & Collaboration to be held in the city of Malmö, Sweden on 1-5 July 2024.

The Summer School, organized by IOC/UNESCO in partnership with the European Commission and with the collaborative support of the City of Malmö (Malmö stad), the Malmö Marine Education Center (Marint Kunskapscenter i Malmö), and the World Maritime University, aims to foster enhanced collaboration on ocean-related initiatives, promote ocean literacy, and explore nature-based solutions within a diverse and interdisciplinary setting.

Featuring an in-person program with esteemed international guests and speakers, the event will delve into various topics pertinent to both local and regional contexts, including empathy-driven collaboration, impact assessment, ocean governance, stakeholder engagement, nature-based solutions, and effective communication strategies.

The Summer School supports the following learning outcomes:

  • How to effectively collaborate on the development of ocean-related projects 
  • How to improve communication and storytelling in transdisciplinary and multicultural environments
  • How to collaborate and advance ocean literacy for nature-based solutions in the Baltic and North Seas
  • How to deal with local hot-topics and how to engage with local institutions and stakeholders
  • To become familiar with the objectives and actions of the EU4Ocean Coalition and Youth4Ocean Forum and scale up their efforts, under the framework of the UN Ocean Decade 

The initiative is organized under the European Ocean Coalition (EU4Ocean) framework in the context of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030).
